Sorry Something Unexpected Happened Try Again Draft Creation Failed Api Response Is Undefined
Marketers and pocket-sized businesses beloved running Facebook ads because they yield fantastic results at a depression toll.
Plus, Facebook ads are likewise really easy to run…right???
Did anyone out at that place (especially designers) but sigh?
As the Director of Marketing for a small business, I am as well the entire Department of Marketing, then I personally create our Facebook ads from strategy to blueprint to implementation. As a Creative at center, I enjoy the graphic pattern office of my job and yet, I dread the days I have to spend designing annihilation for Facebook ads.
Yes, advertising with Facebook is ofttimes very simple, simply with the ever-changing and oftentimes opaque artistic requirements, things can get catchy and frustrating on the ad cosmos side. None of the following Facebook advertisement problems I've encountered are insurmountable by any means (and I'll evidence you lot how to piece of work around them). But man does information technology get frustrating (and kinda funny) sometimes.
Facebook Advert Fail #ane: The Pixel That Got Abroad
Have you e'er tried to employ an image for an advert that wasn't exactly Facebook'due south "recommended" size? I have (on blow)! As you might imagine, information technology didn't become also well.
My single image advertizement was rejected one time considering it was one pixel off from the recommended size. The toughest role of this wasn't and then much that it was rejected just that there was no fault message or reason given for the rejection. Power Editor was but stuck and no matter how many times I tried uploading the image, the preview just stayed blank.
To troubleshoot, I restarted Power Editor, re-created the campaign again from scratch, and tried a different browser – but nothing made a difference.
Finally, I checked my artistic and saw that it was 1200 x 627 pixels instead of the "recommended" 1200 10 628. When I adjusted the image, it loaded into my campaign perfectly Similar Zilch HAPPENED.
I don't get mad almost strict requirements on creative; graphic designers are very used to that and inventiveness thrives under constraint; but, I do wish Ability Editor would have given me a caput's up about what was wrong.
How To Fix Information technology: If something goes wrong during your advertisement cosmos and you can't effigy out why, double bank check your creative to make sure it matches Facebook's recommended ad specs exactly.
Facebook Advertizement Fail #2: What Are Words?
Here'south something you lot may not know: illustrations of falling snow are actually words!
Wait, what? Let me explicate. A few months agone I was creating a carousel advertisement to feature some of the all-time deals for our Christmas sale and I kept getting the "your advertising may not run" fault message because there was "also much text" in it. I started to strip text, test, strip more than text, then test over and over once again until there was literally no text in the ad:
As you can see, at that place is aught text in this image only the Facebook advertizement notwithstanding failed. Okay, maybe a trivial if you zoom in on the Jensen DUB logo, but it certainly does not deserve a warning at all, permit alone an "Image Text: High" warning.
So I did what anyone would do in this situation: LOL'ed, took a screenshot, and then later wrote about it on the WordStream blog. 😉 I also sent the screenshot to Facebook and nicely asked for an explanation and some direction on how to ready it. A couple days subsequently I received a phone call from the Facebook ads team, and they were as baffled as I had been at first.
Simply by then I had figured out by trial and error that when I removed the snow graphic, my image (even with some real text in it) passed with no bug! In other words: the plan was reading the snow as text.
How To Set up It: Contact Facebook ads support via Ability Editor. They're very helpful and overnice! Too, after that incident the Facebook text overlay tool has earned a coveted spot on my Chrome bookmark bar alongside heavy hitters like my Shopify login and Google Analytics. If y'all aren't using that tool yet and yous put text in your ads, I highly recommend you check it out.
Facebook Ad Fail #iii: Exceptions AKA Text On Product Images
We sell car stereos (amongst many other aftermarket car accessories) and some of our best performing ads feature product images. If you think I tin just drop in a dainty dazzler shot .png of the latest Apple CarPlay receiver into Photoshop and be on my merry mode – think again.
There is a LOT of text on a product image similar that and even though they say this should qualify for an exception, that has not (until recently) been my experience for our products. My workaround was to employ a Gaussian blur on ALL of the text including the logo (ugh) on products similar these:
But taking the text off of a multimedia receiver is a bad option because the content on the product's screen is intrinsically tied to the appeal and value of the product! That is of course why Facebook made product images an exception, and even though those exceptions are supposed to be automatically applied, they were not in my case.
When I spoke to a very squeamish admirer at Facebook virtually the snowflake/text debacle I mentioned this outcome to him as well. He basically told me that next time I encounter that problem, to permit him know and he'd see what he could do. He never said he would (or could for that matter) do anything to help me business relationship-wide or to prevent it from happening again.
Since that conversation notwithstanding, I haven't had whatever issues with an ad getting rejected for having besides much text when it features a text-laden auto stereo receiver. Did they change something on my business relationship or to the ads software in full general? Perhaps. Am I simply getting lucky? Perhaps. Is information technology my place (a mere mortal!) to question the vast mysteries of the Zuck? Probably not.
How To Fix It: If you know you lot have an advertisement coming up that volition accept text in it but should qualify for an exception, start your advertizement creation early in case yous demand to contact Facebook ads support to become it resolved.
Facebook Advert Fail #4: Editing Boosted Posts on Instagram
One 24-hour interval I noticed that a boosted mail was getting a lot of appointment on Instagram and I idea I'd change the link to a new optimized landing page I had just finished working on.
Should I have just had the all-time link on at that place to begin with? Yes, of class I should have but that isn't always how things go when y'all are a 1-adult female marketing department (or even if you're not). Plus, remember that this is a mail well-nigh fails.
So hither's what I learned from this particular Facebook fail. You lot are allowed to edit your boosted post and change the link on your advertisement merely there's a take hold of. The Instagram advert preview in Power Editor updates with your new link BUT information technology does not in fact change the link on your live Instagram ad. Boo. If you somehow forget the link entirely, you cannot go dorsum and add 1. Boo! However, if you desire to change or add a link on a boosted mail on Facebook it will really change the link. Yay!
How To Prepare It: The dazzler of the boosted post is that it's so easy and cheap that i might exist tempted to exist compulsive about clicking that "boost now" push button. Instead, slow downward and brand certain your advertizement content is 100% workable on both Facebook & Instagram (if you lot have Instagram and information technology's linked). Pretend that your boosted advertising is a printed ad yous won't exist able to change once it runs (b/c on Instagram information technology basically is).
I Still Love Facebook Ads
I wrote a post concluding yr near stretching a modest business marketing budget and I however believe paying to play on Facebook is a must for everyone. Facebook ads are such a cost-efficient style to promote your business that it's worth all of the fails in the cease.
